Windows 2000 dialup guide
Before going further: please make sure you have your Windows system CD or floppy disks with you.
Setting up a Dial-Up Connection
From the Desktop, Click on "Start", "Settings", "Network and Dial-up Connections".

This will open up the "Network and Dial-up Connections" window (See Fig 1-2 below). There will be an Icon labeled "Make New Connection". (If you have used Dial-up Networking in the past, there may also be other icons).

Double click the icon "Make New Connection". This will start the Network connection Wizard.

You will be asked to select a "Network Connection Type".
Choose "Dial-up to the Internet" and click "Next".

Next you will be asked whether you already have an Internet account.
Select "I want to set up my Internet connection manually" and Click "Next".

Next the "Setting Up" page appears
Select "I connect through a phone line and modem" and Click "Next".

If your modem is not installed: This will start the "Install New Modem" window
Follow the directions to have Windows detect and install your modem.
If your modem is already installed: This will bring up the "Step 1 of 3." window

Uncheck the box marked "Use area code and dialing rules".
Click the "Advanced" button and the "Advanced Connection Properties" window will appear.

Ensure all options appear exactly as they do above then click on the "Addresses" tab.

In the area for "IP Address" select "Internet service provider automatically provides one"
In the area for "DNS server address", select "Always use the following"

Click "OK" and then "Next".
This should bring up the "Step 2 of 3..." window

Enter your login name in the Box marked "User name".
Enter your password in the box marked "Password".
Click "Next"
This should bring up the "Step 3 of 3" window

Name the connection. (It's not really important what you name it, but it is helpful to name it in a way that reminds you of what it is)
Click "Next"
The settings for dialing into Sydney University are now complete.
