ICT Access Labs

If you need to use a computer outlet on campus, head to an ICT Access Lab!

Below is a summary of the main facilities available at ICT Access Labs. Further information can be accessed using the menu on your left.

IT resources

The following software is common to ICT Access Lab computers:

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 8
  • Endnote X1
  • Flash Player 9
  • Internet Explorer 7
  • WebCT Compatible Java Runtime Client
  • Microsoft Office 2007 Applications
  • Quick Time Player 7.3
  • SPSS v14
  • Symantec AntiVirus
  • Telnet Software (e.g. SSH Secure Shell)

The following software is only installed in specific labs.

  • MatLab software - Link Access Lab
  • Media Master software - Language Access Lab

Printing facilities

To print on an ICT Access Lab computer you must have money on your UniKey account. When you print your document your job will be placed onto the print queue of the default printer in your lab. You can check the queue for your lab by clicking here. When your job reaches the top of the queue, and if you have enough credit on your account, your job will print.

NOTE: A4 printers are currently available at Fisher, Law and Cumberland Access Labs. Additionally, A3 printers are available at Fisher and The Conservatorium of Music's Access Labs. Colour printers are available at Fisher and Law.

If you do not have enough money on your Unikey account, your job will not print.

Scanning facilities

Scanning facilities are currently available at the Fisher and Cumberland Access Labs. There is no charge for the use of the scanner, however we do require students use this service responsibly in abiding by the various Copyright Laws of printed media.

Recharge your UniKey

Payments to credit UniKey accounts can be made via EFTPOS or credit card at any ICT Access Lab except for the Pharmacy Access Lab. The minimum payment is $10.00, and Dinners Club, American Express cards and cash are not accepted.

When you make a payment you will be asked to provide your student card or show some other official photo identification

24 Hour Computer Access

Students and permanent staff of the University are eligible to have 24 hour access to the McGrath Access Centre (Room 201, Carslaw Bldg, Eastern Avenue).

Costs

If you are a permanent staff or student and do not have existing access on your student or staff card, the cost of will be $16.50 + GST.

If you are a permanent staff or student and have existing access to other buildings, the cost will be $5.50.

To organise this access, take your student or staff card and other forms of photo identification to the security systems desk at:

Security Systems is open 8am until 5pm weekdays.

When talking to Security Systems, it is imperative to ask for access to the McGrath Access Centre, Rm. 201, Carslaw Building-F07.

Energy conservation in the ICT Access Labs

The ICT Access Labs are committed to energy conservation. To that end, the monitors are set to power down after 20 minutes of inactivity. This will make the computers appear to be off as the screens will not display anything. To reactivate the monitors, move the mouse, or press any key on the keyboard.
