The University holds a variety of site licenses, allowing registered students of the University of Sydney to install these exclusive software packages – free of any charge.

Once your association with the University of Sydney is finished, you will need to purchase your own software license, unless you are covered by another organisations site license for these software packages.

AARNET mirror
AARNET (our backbone provider) host a mirror of freely downloadable and open source software which is available for download at AARNET prices (see our costs page).

Endnote
The University wide license for EndNote includes "registered students, employed faculty and all other employees of the University of Sydney".
The software is only covered by this license "so long as they are registered students at the University of Sydney or are employed by the University of Sydney".
When your association with the University of Sydney in any of the above capacities is finished you will need to purchase your own license, unless you are covered by another organisations site license.
The software may be used "at the site or at their principal residence". However, use of the software at the principal residence is "limited to use related to course work, research or other work directly related to the users relationship with the University of Sydney".
The software must not be "copied or downloaded on to any non-eligible users personal disc for personal use".

StarOffice Office Suite is the world's leading office productivity suite on Linux and the Solaris OS, and the leading alternative office suite on Windows.
StarOffice software is easy to use, and based on open standards. It offers word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing, and database capabilities. Its familiar interface enables quick productivity and results for the business user, and elegant output for the consumer.
StarOffice 7 software adds functionality to enable export to PDF, and to the Macromedia Flash format. It also introduces the new StarOffice Configuration Manager, the StarOffice Software Development Kit, a macro recorder, and support for assistive technologies, as well as for complex text layouts.
Academic and research institutions and Universities, are eligible for a no-cost site license of StarOffice. This institutional license is available for the cost of media only - no other licensing fees apply. The StarOffice licensing agreement gives Educational Institutions the right to make StarOffice available for internal use. "Internal use" means that your enrolled students, faculty and staff may use the Software on computers that you own, operate, or maintain direct control over."
