Prizes
The Institute of Social Sciences has established three annual prize competitions to showcase social science research at the University of Sydney:
- Best Social Science PhD in 2008
- Best Published Research by an Early Career Researcher in 2008
- Best Published Research by a Mid-Career Researcher in 2008
Each prize will be $5000, to be disbursed as research funds.
In addition to their prizes, the winners will be invited to speak at the Institute’s Annual Forum, to be held in September.
Nominations should include:
- A copy of the text in question, and
- A statement explaining in detail how and why the work in question achieves excellence in terms of its field and findings.
- In addition, nomination for the Best Social Science PhD should also include:
- A nomination statement from the PhD supervisor, outlining the significance and merit of the PhD and its research; and
- Copies of all examination reports.
An Early Career Researcher is someone within five years of being awarded their PhD.
A Mid-career Researcher is someone who is within fifteen years of being awarded their PhD and who has not yet been appointed or promoted as a full professor. Exemptions may be granted for periods out of the academic workforce.
The nominations will be reviewed by the Prizes Committee.
