Resident Life

Ten days before each semester begins, an orientation programme run by the residents welcomes new residents to the house and helps them settle into IH, the university, and Sydney.
In 2008, the Semester 1 orientation will begin on Saturday 23 February and end on Sunday 2 March. New residents are invited to arrive early and enjoy the organised events.
The orientation programme is not just for new residents. Returning residents, visitors (including ISSU students), and friends are invited to join the fun and discover Sydney with us.
Note: Participants will need to pay out of pocket for transport, entry fees, and their own food and drinks.
Welcome from the IHMA President
On behalf of International House Members’ Association, I welcome you to our home away from home. We’re excited to have you be a part of the IH community for the year 2008 and beyond!
The IHMA Executive Committee has a host of activities planned for the upcoming year to suite all tastes and preferences. Our goal is to have something for everyone and in that process create an environment that fosters interaction and builds a strong sense of community. A goal common across every event is FUN while EXPANDING OUR HORIZONS, so our activities focus on academic, social, cultural, recreational and/or a combination of the list. Participation in these activities can help make the city of Sydney and University a friendlier place.
The IH Community is composed of a multi-cultural student body from a variety of backgrounds. This will afford you a unique experience to live and learn in a dynamic no-pressure environment. The staff of IH; the senior residents and the IHMA committee will work to ensure a safe environment that allows for the pursuit of knowledge while providing venues to explore personal interests.
The IHMA Executive invites you to start your acclimation process by joining us for a 10 Day Orientation Program which starts on Saturday 23rd February 2008 and ends on Sunday 2nd March 2008. New residents are strongly encouraged to arrive by Saturday 23rd February to orientate themselves to IH and the University. The 10 Day Orientation Program is not just for new residents; returning residents, visitors and friends are invited to join the fun and rediscover the great city of Sydney.
Please note that Sydney University and the respective Faculties run their own Orientation from Wednesday 27th February 2008 to Friday 29th February 2008. Future residents are advised to check their faculty schedules for exact dates.
Please see below for a list of Orientation activities. These dates and events are likely to change but will give you a good idea of what to expect when you get here. I look forward to welcoming each and every one of you to IH and the University of Sydney.
Till then…best!
