Government and Student Relations

The Government and Student Relations Unit provides support and advice to international students, in relation to a broad range of issues throughout their studies at the University of Sydney.

Student Advisers

The International Office has International Student Advisers who are available to help international students with questions regarding student visas, permission to work, enrolment and other related issues. The Student Advisers regularly liaise with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) on individual student matters. Students who are experiencing difficulty with their studies, or adjusting to life in Australia should contact the Student Advisers: or come in to the International Office.

Education Loans for International Students

Students attending the University of Sydney are eligible to apply for government funded and education private loan. There is a dedicated International Loan Schemes Officer located in the International Office to assist students in relation to applying for education loans to fund their study. Students from Canada, Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States are able to apply for education loans from government departments in their home countries. In addition, international students who have a co-borrower who is either a citizen or permanent resident of the United States can access private education loans. AusAID

The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) provides a number of key scholarships to international students. These scholarship programs are aimed at promoting education cooperation and development in the Asia-Pacific and Africa regions.

The University of Sydney’s AusAID Unit is located within the International Office and is the focal point for Australian Development Scholarship, Australian Partnership Scholarship and Australian Leadership Award students. Prospective and current students can contact the AusAID Unit about future study at the University or any aspect of their scholarship, academic progress or welfare following arrival in Australia.
