Sources of investment funds

The funds for University investments come primarily from a mixture of short-term funds and long-term funds:

Short-term funds

Short-term funds are monies which are earmarked for specific purposes and which are expected to be available either immediately or for use in the near term. They include:

  • faculty operating accounts and retain surpluses
  • foundation funds
  • student fees
  • research grant monies
  • other grant funds
  • consulting and donation account monies
  • capital development program funds
  • special reserves of colleges
  • government money received in advance

Long-term funds

Long-term funds are monies held by the University for the realization of long-term goals, and may be held as investments indefinitely. They include:

  • bequests
  • endowments
  • capital preserved trusts
  • foundations
  • discretionary capital
  • provisions
