Mission Statement

To provide young aged undergraduate students who have little or no living away from home skills with economical accommodation, which meets the budget of the average student and is conducive to study, promotes student community living, in a cost effective manner.

University Owned Housing provides a very diverse and interesting environment in which to live and study. Residents comprise both international and local students who study at the various locations across campus and many long lasting friendships are formed whilst residing in these properties.

There are three styles of accommodation managed by the University Owned Student Housing office on main campus all of which are self catering - Terraced Housing, Darlington House and Low cost housing.

All the properties are all in easy access of the University’s student amenities and a 10 minute walk to Broadway a major shopping centre. Alternatively you can catch buses which run frequently outside your doorstep to Central Railway Station, Sydney’s City Shopping Centre and the CBD finishing at Circular Quay, Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and the Historical Rocks.

Self catering - Terraced housing

Univeristy owned student housing - terrace house

There are 43 terraces located in three streets - Arundel Street, Chapman Steps Forest Lodge (Camperdown Campus) and Darlington Road (Darlington Campus). See Camperdown/Darlington map.

These terraced houses are over 100 years old and whilst retaining the heritage of a bygone era they are continuously being maintained and refurbished for your comfort with modern facilities and security devices.

Internet ports are available in some of the houses, but wireless can be picked up in every house.

A typical terrace house accommodates 4 mixed gender students in their own single study bedrooms.

All bedrooms are fully furnished and each student is supplied with bed, mattress, mattress protector, wall heater, study desk, study chair and wardrobe.

The residents share a fully furnished living area, one or two bathrooms, a coin-operated laundry and a kitchen with microwave, cook top and fridge supplied. Small kitchen appliances are not supplied by the University but students will often share their appliances amongst themselves.

You will need to bring your own bed linen, towels, personal electrical items, pots, pan cutlery and crockery which will give the residence your own personal touch.

To help with the adjustment of living in University Owned Student Housing we endeavour to have one student from the previous academic year residing in each terrace. And where it is possible three or four terraces share one back yard to promote a community atmosphere.

There is very limited off street parking available, but you can apply for an on street parking permit from the City of Sydney Council.

The rental fee includes a weekly clean of the common areas, access to the University’s Security Service 24 hours a day 365 days a year, all utilities, however any costs associated with the internet or telephone are borne by the resident enabling you to use the service provider of your choice.


Self catering units - Darlington House

University owned housing - Darlington House

Darlington House is located on Darlington Road, Darlington. See Camperdown/Darlington map. Darlington House comprises of 4 storeys containing 12 units, with a total of 54 study bedrooms. All units accommodate four to five students of the same gender in their own single study bedrooms.

As the typical age group of Darlington House at the beginning of semester is between 17 and 18 years old a Resident Assistant resides in Darlington House to help assist with any queries in the running of Darlington House. Also to help with the adjustment of living away from home we endeavour to have one student from the previous academic year residing in each terrace.

All rooms are furnished with a bed, mattress, mattress protector, wardrobes, study desks, study chair and wall heater and an internet port.

The residents share a fully furnished living area a kitchen, a bathroom with two toilets, two showers or two toilets a shower and a bath tub. A coin operated laundry is located on every floor.

Underground security parking is available for rent to residents.

To give the unit the feeling of your own home, you will need to bring your own bed linen, towels and personal electrical items. Small kitchen appliances are not supplied by the University but once the house is occupied the students will often share these amongst themselves.

An outside terrace is located on the first floor to promote the community spirit throughout Darlington House.

Self catering - Low cost accommodation (37 beds only)

There is a limited amount of low cost beds which are further subsidised by the University for Australian resident students receiving a Centrelink benefit.

Successful applicants can reside in low cost single room or studio apartments accommodation for a maximum of two academic years only.

There are 16 single bedrooms available located in both the Darlington and Camperdown terraced houses and there are 7 studio apartments and 14 twin share rooms in Selle House located on Parramatta Road, Forest Lodge. See Camperdown/Darlington map.
