Achieving and Maintaining Excellence in Learning and Teaching

In 2001 the University of Sydney developed an integrated program to ensure its ability to achieve and maintain learning and teaching of the highest quality. This program was based on the following foundations:

  • Academic Board's Teaching and Learning Committee (established in 1996)
  • The position of Pro-Vice Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) established in 1999
  • A refocussing of the Institute for Teaching and Learning (ITL) away from being an academic staff development unit into a strategic support unit providing research and teaching focussed on improving the quality of University learning and teaching
  • The establishment of a University Teaching and Learning Plan (originally promulgated in 1999 for the 2000 - 2004 period)
