Session 6.1: Learning through WebCT

O'Dea, J., and Crawford, L.

The poster will report research into student's prior experience of learning through WebCt at University. Feedback from 3rd year Human Movement and Health Education students were obtained. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were adopted. Questionnaires were completed by all 60 enrolled students and interviews conducted with students prior to them commencing this course. The results show that students found online lecture notes and quizzes as the most helpful factors contributing to their learning in previous courses that they had undertaken at university.

The study highlighted an interesting factor that needs further research. Similar numbers of students listed discussion as the 'most helpful' as did 'least helpful' factor in their learning. Given that learning through discussion is a fundamental part of teaching and learning more research is needed to identify factors that assist or hinder discussions.
