UNIVERSITY TEACHING GRANTS SCHEMES
The University Teaching Grants have been recently revised to ensure that the projects supported have stronger pedagogical credentials with articulated links between projects and faculty and /or University strategic plans. The revisions were endorsed by the SEG Education Committee and approved by the Senior Executive Group in September 2009.
The Large Teaching Improvement and Equipment Scheme (TIES) Grants have been replaced with Teaching Improvement Projects (TIP) Grants to support projects of up to $50,000 each. Applications for the procurement of teaching equipment will not be funded under this category. Projects will be required to address one of the four themes listed below and applications should clearly address faculty learning and teaching objectives/strategies directly.
The Small Teaching Improvement and Equipment Scheme (TIES) Grants remain unchanged. Grants $10,000 and under will be awarded based on faculty endorsement and grants for the procurement of teaching equipment may be included in this category.
Please note that applications applied for in 2009 will be referred to as 2010 Grants as that is when the funds will be distributed.
TEACHING IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS SCHEME (TIPS)
Teaching Improvement Project (TIP) Grants are administered through the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education).
When the amount applied for exceeds $50,000 it is expected that the exceeding amount would be matched dollar for dollar from another source of funding eg. Faculty funds, Scholarship Index funding etc.
PLEASE NOTE THAT eLEARNING INITIATIVE SUPPORT IS OFFERED THROUGH DESIGN HOURS NOT THROUGH FUNDING.
Applications should address one of the following themes:
- Projects on improving teaching, particularly in the areas of student engagement, student inclusion, feedback to students and research-led teaching.
- Projects on program learning outcomes, including benchmarking and standards-based assessment.
- Projects on recognising and rewarding good teaching.
- Projects on global citizenship and on diversity of staff and students.
Applications for TIP Grants falling outside these thematic areas will be considered separately, particularly where the application anticipates a future theme or demonstrates a faculty strategic initiative.
Please refer to the selection criteria and application form for full details.
