Guidelines to individual consultations

An appointment with a Learning Success Advisor can help you:

  • interpret your assignment requirements
  • structure your writing and express your ideas more clearly
  • enhance your academic writing style
  • improve your self-editing skills
  • develop your reading and note-taking skills
  • identify resources to develop your academic language skills
  • adapt to university study (including Higher Degree by Research studies) and manage your workload.

In order to maximise the benefits of appointments and provide a fair system for all students, we have some guidelines around appointment booking.

  • Be mindful of your assignment due dates and plan ahead so you can get the most benefit from seeing a Learning Success Advisor.
  • We do not edit, proofread, grammar check or revise assignments.
  • We cannot advise on the disciplinary content of your work. Your lecturers, tutors and supervisors are the best resources for content-specific advice.
  • You can only enrol in one session per week. Speak to your Learning Success Advisor if you need more sessions.
  • If you are no longer able to attend a booked appointment, please cancel as soon as possible.

Staff referrals for learning support

Staff can help any student in need of additional learning support by referring them to the Learning Hub. Use the Student Referral Form to refer one or multiple students.

Once submitted, the Learning Hub will reach out directly to the student and offer relevant study resources and targeted support.

Studiosity

Studiosity is an online service that provides feedback and guidance on students’ academic skills, 24/7. Through this service, you can receive timely, personal feedback and learning support after hours and on weekends.

‘Connect Live’ allows you to connect with a Subject Specialist in a real time interactive classroom. They can work through their question using typed or voice chat, and draw problems or equations on the online whiteboard. Through the ‘Writing Feedback’ service, you can receive constructive writing feedback within 24 hours of submitting a draft assessment. An adviser will provide comments and advice on organisation and structure, English and academic language, grammar, punctuation and referencing.

Visit our Learning Hub Canvas page and select the ‘Studiosity: same-day feedback’ link to find more information, set up your free account, and begin using the Writing Feedback and Connect Live services.
