Scientific Language: Sentence Structure

When your lecturers are reading your report, they are looking for correct language i.e. language where the grammar and sentence structure is correct.

A simple sentence (also called a clause) consists of a complete idea with all of its parts. The key parts of a sentence are its subject and its verb.

Subject: the doer, thinker, sayer, etc who/which is responsible for the activity of doing, thinking, saying, being, having etc.

Verb: the process of doing, thinking saying, being, having etc. A simple sentence has to contain a complete verb.
