Reference List

The reference list is placed after the conclusions and recommendations. It is standard academic practice to provide the publication details of all the references mentioned (cited) in the report at the end of the report (but not the ones you may have read but did not mention).

References are listed in alphabetical order (usually by author name and year). For each reference give ALL the authors’ names, the year of publication, the full title of the book or article and other publication details (edition numbers, volume and issue numbers, page numbers, publisher name, city published, web address and date accessed). Depending on the kind of publication you are referring to, there are some differences in publication details and punctuation used.

This module provides some examples of reference list entries similar to the entries you will have in your field trip report reference list.

As it is impossible to predict all the types of publications you might refer to, we recommend you consult the ‘Guide to Report Writing for Mining Engineering’ (Hagan and Mort, 2007).
