Managing People Program

Today, a new leading manager has emerged who focusses on harnessing people power by leading from the front rather than driving from behind. This is now the preferred means of achieving organisational goals.

The core Managing People program will consist of the following three modules and staff are required to participate in all of these:

Key objectives

  • Refine the leadership skills required of managers today
  • Practice the skills necessary to establish and build team identity and commitment
  • Understand how to develop individuals to ensure achievement of work objectives

Module 1 - Essential Management Skills

  • From manager to leader
  • High performance work practices
  • Understanding change
  • Developing resilience
  • Your personal work style

Module 2 - Leading Successful Teams

  • Establishing our team identity
  • Setting expectations
  • Dealing with intra-team conflict
  • Communication essentials

Module 3 - Managing for Peak Performance

  • Recognising development needs in individuals
  • Developing employees – The starting P\point
  • Performance improvement interventions
  • Motivation

To assist participants in transferring the skills they learn in the Managing People program to their workplaces they will be required to complete reading and short assignments.

Target Audience

This program is aimed at those with some experience in managing staff who are seeking to enhance their leadership capabilities.

As a guideline this would include general staff at levels HEO 7 - 8, and academic staff in their first management role.
