Prof Certoma is a legal academic of long standing having taught Succession, Property, Comparative Law and Immigration Law and Practice, variously at the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales and the University of Wollongong. Prof Certoma has also practised as a solicitor, and has been a member of State and Commonwealth Tribunals and an Acting Judge of the District Court of New South Wales.
He is a graduate in Arts and Laws of the University of Sydney where he also completed a Master of Laws Degree. He later completed the Degree of Dottore in Giurisprudenza at the University of Florence, Italy.
