Welcome to a new adventure!

The Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master of Medical Humanities are designed for students who are interested in the broad social, cultural, historical, philosophical and ethical contexts for medicine and health care.

You may have a professional interest in medicine and healthcare - as a general practitioner, medical specialist, nurse, public health physician, physiotherapist, social worker or health service manager. Alternatively, you may come from a background in law, the arts, journalism, social sciences or humanities.

Learning with students from diverse disciplinary backgrounds is a challenging and rewarding experience. You can read what students in the Program have said about it here.

Learning online

Most of the units of study are available in weekly evening seminars, but many potential students are unable to access them because they live too far away, especially those living in rural areas or interstate. We are in the process of developing more units of study online, to meet the needs of students who are unable to attend lectures on campus. You will find elective units online in the Faculties of Medicine, Health Sciences, Education and Social Work, as well as in Arts.

The online units range widely across faculties and departments, and include:
Death Dying and Mourning (Social Work)
Professional Ethics (Philosophy)
Medical Matters in English Literature (English)
Soceity, Behaviour and Public Health (Medicine)
Love and Sexuality in Ancient Rome (Classical Civilization)
The Western Greeks (Archaeology)
Behavioural Aspects of Ageing (Health Sciences)
