Anthropology Department Teaching Collection

In 1995 The contents of the Universities Anthropology Departments teaching Collection was transferred to the Historic Photograph Collection. This included several thousand lantern slides and some glass plate negatives. This collection remains mostly uncatalogued

They have been most strongly associated with the Anthropologist Ian Hogbin who played an integral part in the setting up of this collection. The images date from the late 19th century through to the mid 1940's.

The majority of these images of indigenous peoples are from the Pacific region particularly Papua and New Guinea and Western and Northern Australia.
