Ernest Brougham Docker

Background

Ernest Brogham Docker, also known as Judge Docker, was the son of Joseph Docker, one of Australia’s earliest amateur photographers. Ernest assisted his father in experiments with the calotype process in 1850 or even a little earlier, when Ernest was a child of eight. By the turn of the century the stereographs he was producing show that after 50 years practice he had not only mastered the technicalities of the art, but had developed an eye for very pleasing compositions. Joseph Dockers property was called Thornwaite near Scone in the Hunter Valley.
