mirror mirror … then opens UNIVERSITY ART GALLERY 4 Jan–2May
mirror mirror … and now opens TIN SHEDS & VERGE 25 March–1May
In the 1960s, mirrors began to be used by artists across a spectrum of international movements from pop, kinetic, minimal and conceptual art. Mirror Mirror presents classic mirror pieces from the 1960s and early 1970s by such major artists as Shusaku Arakawa, Art & Language, Ian Burn, Richard Hamilton, Joan Jonas, Yoko Ono, Meret Oppenheim, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Robert Rauschenberg and Robert Smithson.
The first part of the exhibition mirror mirror … then consists of mirror works from the 1960s and early 1970s. The second part of mirror mirror … and now has mirror pieces by contemporary Australian artists and opens at the Tin Sheds and Verge Gallery from 25th March to 1st May.
The exhibition has been curated by Ann Stephen, and is a joint project of Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane and University Art Gallery, University of Sydney, in association with Samstag Museum of Art, Adelaide. The publication has been supported by a grant from the Gordon Darling Foundation.
