swITched on: ICT support online for students
10 June 2008
Who doesn't love a 'one-stop shop' for everything they need? ICT has launched a revamped IT support site which aims to be a 'one-stop' support site specifically targeted at students in the University. The newly developed website, 'swITch', marks the start of a more friendly general IT support base for students in the University.
The site aims to provide simple and straight-forward IT help and advice to students, as well as promoting the self-management of UniKey accounts. With its clean and uncluttered interface, the site structure allows for easy navigation and quick access to information and FAQs.
"The goal of swITch is to provide content that will be newer and more relevant but most importantly, easily accessible to all students," says project leader Tam Lai. "That is why the content was written by students for students."
The launch of swITch is also aimed at lessening the support load currently experienced by ICT's Helpdesk. ICT Helpdesk Team Leader Nick Gilbert was extremely pleased with this initiative.
"Providing uncomplicated single points of contact is critical to ensuring that our support process is streamlined and customer focused," Gilbert says. "Students don't want to - and shouldn't have to - spend hours trawling through a multitude of disparate support sites in order to get assistance with their query."
In replacing ITAssist, swITch is expected to bring great improvements to the online experience for students at the University of Sydney.
After the exam period, the old student section of the ITAssist site will be phased out and replaced with redirects to the swITch site. The site can be viewed at: http://www.usyd.edu.au/ict/switch/.
