New Data Centre for the University of Sydney

The University signed the contract for a new Data Centre, which will replace the existing H08 Computer Centre.
Supplied by technical real-estate specialists Global Switch Australia, this world-class facility will provide data centre infrastructure which is rated at Tier3+ under the Uptime Institute USA standards classification. Together with the existing rationalisation and consolidation program and the use of system virtualisation, the new environment will provide capacity for substantial growth well into the future.
The new Data Centre is located in a private security suite within the Global Switch facility. It covers 320 square metres, an approximate increase of 150% over the current environment.
Now that the contract has been signed, technical fit-out will commence within the Global Switch facility. Operational fit-out will then take place, followed by relocation of the H08 Computing Centre system infrastructure, and is planned to be completed by 27 Jan 2009.
