Daylight Savings calendar issues - 5th October, 2008
25 September 2008
This year, the Australian eastern (NSW, Vic, ACT and Tas) and central (SA) time zones have extended daylight savings. This transition of dates will have an impact on time- and date-sensitive computer applications such as calendar systems. This impact will be particularly disruptive during the overlap period between the original and new Daylight Savings dates (5th October 2008 to 26th October 2008).
The 2008-2009 start of Daylight Savings is 2am on the 5th October, 2008.
It is vitally important that all systems are adjusted, as it will reduce the impact during the 2008 transition and virtually eliminate any issues in future years.
To help ensure that your computer is ready for the new Daylight Savings Transition please visit http://itassist.usyd.edu.au/daylightsaving/, and follow the steps to update your computer. We also recommend you implement the following actions before 5th October, 2008:
- For all meetings in your calendar that occur during the transition period (i.e.: all meetings scheduled between the 5th - 26th October), write the date and time into either the body or the subject line of the appointment.
- Make a print copy of your schedule during the transition period, and use this as a reference point.
Finally, please ensure you have applied the appropriate patches and updates to reduce future confusion, but be aware that applying these patches and updates may not stop your calendar from being affected.
