Residents enjoying the after party |
In order to end an action packed semester in a worthy manner, the office and IHMA went all-out in the preparation of our last formal dinner and disco of the semester.
It is a long-since established tradition to hold the last formal dinner on World Environment Day, which was therefore also the theme of the dinner. As usual the evening began in the Wool Room where residents and staff casually mingled during pre-dinner drinks.Residents were excited to see the enormous effort the social coordinators had gone to for the pirate-themed after party.
Les, our Catering Manager, went to a lot of effort to cook a delicious meal for the dinner and present the dining room in an immaculate way.
The guest speaker of the evening was Professor Alex McBratney from the Faculty of Agriculture, Food& Natural Resources at the University of Sydney, whose research is supported with over $1M annually. Jonathan Ribot our IHMA Chairperson gave a short speech in which he thanked all IHMA members for the work they have done throughout the semester in organising so many great events. He introduced IHMA's new chairperson Michael Neely, who will be taking over at the beginning of next semester and is sure to keep up the good work done by Jonathan.
After the dinner ended, residents made their way to get dressed into pirate outfits for the after party. Residents took the theme to heart and truly got into the spirit.
There was loud yelping to be heard from the far end of the 7th floor corridor, where an aspiring pirate had his ear pierced by friends using a sewing needle, to ensure the authenticity of his costume! As the two surgeons performed a flawless textbook style operation a rather large crowd of nosey spectators accumulated.
The turnout at the party was amazing, the Wool Room was jam-packed with enthusiastic residents and guests who went to a lot of effort dressing up. The evening was a great success and fulfilled residents' expectations.
