The assistant director, Michael Patoka, organised an action packed weekend trip to Australia's capital city Canberra to enable residents to get to know the city and surrounding area. The chairperson of IHMA, Michael Neely joined the tour as a local Canberrian to help out and provide inside knowledge.

Residents had an early start on Saturday morning when they met at 8am to board the buses to Canberra.

Upon arrival the first stopover was at a local sheep-shearing station where residents visited a Canberrian farm and were supplied with a delicious barbeque lunch. Next of all the residents were taken to one of Canberra's most exciting sights, the breathtaking war memorial, which is both architecturally and historically fascinating.

To finish off an exciting first day of sightseeing the group was led to the Redhill lookout from where one has a spectacular view of the entire city and surrounding area. Day two started with residents independently making their way to nice little local cafés for breakfast before heading to an absolute must see when visiting Canberra, Parliament House.

After a tour of one of the most important buildings in Australia Michael Neely surprised his family by inviting the mob of 20 residents to visit his house in Canberra!

The last two stopovers of the trip gave the residents an insight into the Canberrian culture by taking them to the Old Bus Depot Markets where local products, arts and crafts are sold then heading to the Floriade the largest flower expo in Australia with over 1000 types of tulips and lots more!

The group of residents arrived back at IH Sunday evening exhausted but happy.
