• Chiu Chin Ng received a Nagai Foundation Travel Award to enable her to travel to Fukuoka, Japan to present her poster on 'Effects of bilobalide, ginkgolide B and picrotoxinin on GABA-A receptor modulation' at the 2009 conference of the Asian Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences

• Renee Ryan and Rob Vandenberg, together A/Prof Kuyucak (Physics), have been awarded an ARC Discovery Grant on “Mechanism of glutamate transport from experimental and simulation studies” ($420,000 over 3 years)
• Slade Matthews has been awarded the University Co-operative Bookshop Excellence in Teaching and Community Award for 2009
• Kong Li, together with Prof Stephen Simpson and Dr Gregory Sword from the School of Biological Sciences, have received $25,000 from the University's International Program Development Fund to continue their continue our collaboration with Cambridge University on "Locust Swarming: From Neurochemistry to Mass Migration"
• Professor Mary O'Kane, NSW Chief Scientist, gave the 2009 Diana Temple Memorial Lecture on 22 October in Parliament House on "The advancement of the role of women in science". There were approximately 80 attendees, including a sprinkling of males. GARJ introduced Prof O'Kane and spoke briefly about Diana. Diana's husband, daughter and son attended the lecture. • Congratulations to A/Prof Robin Allan on his retirement and on his appointment as an Honorary Associate Professor. He joined the Department of Pharmacology in 1980 and enjoyed a distinguished career in teaching and research

• Dr Kellie Charles has been chosen to be a recipient of one of the ASCEPT Denis Wade Johnson and Johnson New Investigator Awards to be presented at the ASCEPT Annual Scientific Meeting
• Lauren Brites and Amelia Edington have won Poster Prizes at the recent Bosch Institute Annual Scientific Meeting
• Jonathon Arnold has been awarded a NARSAD Young Investigator Award (National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression) for his project 'Role of ABC transporters in resistance to antipsychotic therapy and cannabinoid-antipsychotic drug interactions' (US$28,750 in 2010 and 2011)

• Tina Hinton has been appointed as a Level B Lecturer (0.5 FTE) for a period of 6 months
