Research Only – What’s it like to work for us?

Your work is important, and you deserve to pursue it in a supportive and outcome-driven work environment. Our students are dedicated and committed, and we have a number of high profile research and Federation Fellows who play key roles in the provision of research excellence. And, as the number-one research university in the country, we boast a strong culture of achievement, supported by excellent mentors.

Our outstanding record in research has resulted in significant funding from both the Australian Research Council and the National Health and Medical Research Council. Also, we have more than 150 research centres and institutes, are a core partner in 13 federal government-funded Co-operative Research Centres, and a supporting participant in two others.

Some of our recent triumphs include the awarding of $11.5 million to establish a national grid for new and existing instrumentation in microscopy and microanalysis, and $3.5 million over five years to research and implement strategies for better prevention, management and care for Australians dealing with chronic illnesses.

Last, but not least, the University has a supportive infrastructure for people with a disability and, because we get behind families with the specific support they need, we are a respected employer of choice for women.
