In February 2006 Dr Andreas Jaeger began lecturing in the Department of Germanic Studies and became the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) representative for Australia. Dr Jaeger received his PhD in German as a Foreign Language (Linguistics / German as a Foreign Language) from the University of Bielefeld (Germany).

Germanic Studies is the study of the German language and its rich culture, including German literature, history, society, and lifestyles. German is the language of some 100 million people and is the most widely spoken language in Europe.

Synopsis
A deep understanding of German language and culture can form a strong basis for careers in a diverse array of fields including business, banking, science, education and the arts. Academic staff have a wide range of expertise areas in such areas as contemporary literature in German; cultural policies in Germany, Austria and the EU; contemporary German and Austrian drama; Bildungsroman; contemporary German prose.
