We were recently awarded Higher Education Strategic Initiative - China funding to formalise linkages with Nanjing University through research and research training and to develop a basis of ongoing cooperation.

The University of Sydney and Nanjing University are leading Universities in Australia and China respectively. We will formalise links between Sydney and Nanjing, initially building on complementary strengths in:

• Material Science, Materials characterisation and Microscopy.
• Business and Business Economics.
• Media, Communications and Journalism.
• Public Administration, Industrial Relations.
• Foreign Languages and Foreign Studies.

Projected outcomes from this program will be:

• Formal Memoranda of Understanding between Nanjing and Sydney permitting the free exchange of course and curriculum information, staff and students between the institutions.
• Exchanging staff and postgraduate students between the institutions.
• Tailoring graduate courses at Sydney to requirements of students from Nanjing. An increase in the number of international postgraduate coursework students.
• Increasing knowledge and understanding in Nanjing of the range of expertise available at Sydney to identify areas of mutual and complementary expertise.
• Identifying factors that will make Sydney a desirable destination for students from Nanjing - developing Australia as a real alternative to the United States for overseas graduate and postgraduate education.
