Faculty of Veterinary Science, Camden Campus

The Faculty of Veterinary Science has a well-established research partnership with Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA). Current projects under way on the Camden campus amount to over $6 million and focus on the development of new diagnostic tests and epidemiology of Ovine Johnes Disease, including the economic impact of the disease in infected sheep flocks in NSW.

In 2002, a new Sesqui Chair of Farm Animal Health was established at Camden with the support of the MLA. New projects, which focus on control of internal parasites of sheep, will commence in 2003 in collaboration with researchers on the Camperdown campus. New programs in functional genomics related to wool biology and internal parasitism are also planned in partnership with Australian Wool Innovations and MLA.

The Faculty has also introduced a new initiative in aquaculture and fisheries health with funding support from the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation to support an International Reference Laboratory for EHN virus of fish. This program is in collaboration with CSIRO. Collaboration is developing with NSW Fisheries to help assess the impact of this virus on the conservation of rare and endangered native fish.
