About the Program

The Australia-Korea Foundation (AKF), in partnership with the Korea Foundation (KF) and the Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific (RIAP), has initiated the Australia-Korea Young Leaders Exchange Program. The program aims to develop the leadership skills of potential and/or current leaders from both Australia and Korea, aged between 25 and 45, in specifically identified subject areas or themes.

A delegation of between 8-10 carefully selected young Australian leaders will travel to Korea for 8 days in November 2007, and this arrangement will be reciprocated the following year when a delegation of young Korean leaders will travel to Australia for 8 days.

During their time overseas, delegates will participate in a number of leadership briefings and meetings with their counterparts in the host country. In addition, delegates will undertake site visits to relevant institutions and industries, and have the opportunity to develop an understanding of contemporary Australian/Korean culture and society.

The cost of the program will be met by the respective host country organizations, and the program will be managed by the Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific, at the University of Sydney.

The selection of Australian candidates traveling to Korea will be managed by the Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific.

The first of the Australia-Korea Young Leaders Exchange Program exchanges will focus on environmental issues, and delegates will depart Sydney on 17th November 2007.
