Our Expertise

Training Photo

The development and delivery of customised training programs for developing Asian economies is one of our core business activities.

Our programs target middle and senior level government officers, corporate executives and community group leaders responsible for socio-economic development in various capacities.

Structured generally as short-term executive type courses with innovative teaching methodologies, these programs focus on strengthening participants' management, productivity levels and leadership skills in their given field of professional responsibilities.

Our Approach

We are able to assemble teams of suitably qualified and experienced trainers to develop conceptual and technical skills in specialised courses and capacity building program activities. Our team of training experts have:

  • strong in-country experience and understanding of the developmental issues and challenges in the Asia Pacific region;
  • demonstrated ability to design and deliver tailor-made training programs that cater for government officials, public sector personnel and business executives;
  • capacity to deliver courses in country, in Australia or using video conferencing technology;
  • years of experience in developing and applying methodologies to up-skill the capacity of foreign students studying in Australia and in their home country; and
  • language and cross-cultural skills to facilitate better and effective delivery of courses and training activities.

Programs developed by RIAP can be delivered in a foreign language as many of our staff members and professional trainers are multi-lingual. Training materials and manuals designed for courses can also be reproduced in languages other than English. The in-country experience gained from years of working in partnership with counterpart agencies across the Asia-Pacific region has provided the capacity to operate effectively in a cross-cultural context. This has also contributed significantly to the building of stronger institutional links, while creating an enabling environment for further regional collaboration in international development training.

Management and financial capacity

RIAP has managed and delivered a large number of international projects conducted under the auspices of various organisations including APEC, AusAID and UN agencies.

We are skilled at forming and managing teams of trainers and in establishing institutional participation in programs conducted across the Asia-Pacific region. We have a proven capacity to swiftly mobilise the development and delivery of projects, particularly those that have short lead preparation time.

Built into our projects is an activity monitoring process where we are able to closely assess the effectiveness of training tools and activities against set objectives and agreed outcomes. Our consultants responsible for the development of modules and the delivery of training or research activities are required to work within this framework as part of our quality assurance standards. Our organisation is also equipped to identify potential critical constraints that may affect the successful implementation of research and training projects.

Operating under the financial and administrative systems of the University of Sydney, RIAP has a demonstrated capacity to administer budgets, manage resources, facilitate information exchange, organise project activities, monitor progress and produce outcomes in accordance with stated project objectives and timeframes.

Having served for five years as the Australian National Lead Institute for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Human Resource Development Working Group, we have the proven ability to design programs that respond to regional policy initiatives and ministerial directives.
