Check list for research grant applications

The following questions identify common problem areas; please ensure that you check your application carefully against each one:

Have you checked to ensure all questions in the application form have been answered?
Have you checked to ensure that all supporting documentation requested by the granting body has been attached?
Have you included the original plus the required number of copies?
Have you included a fully completed and signed Research Proposal Clearance Form?
Have you included the University overhead charge, if required?
Where the Head of Department has decided to waive the Department's portion of the University's overhead charge have you included a signed letter from the Head of Department to this effect?
Have you submitted an application for ethics and/or biosafety clearance where required from the appropriate committee?
Have you included copies of relevant ethics and/or biosafety clearances where you have them?
Have you checked to ensure you have included the correct salaries and on-costs for personnel in your budget?
Have you checked to ensure that the research budget correctly adds up?
Has the Head of Department signed the application or has a signed letter from the Head of Department been attached to it to indicate:
  • that the project can be accommodated within the general facilities of the Department;
  • that sufficient work and office space are available for any proposed additional staff; and
  • that the project may be carried out in the Department under the circumstances set out in the application.
In the case of research grant applications between two or more institutions or departments have you commenced discussions to ensure that at the time the grant application is successful you will be in a position to advise the Research Office of the agreed distribution of research income between institutions and distribution of overhead charge income between institutions and/or departments?

PLEASE NOTE: IF A GRANT APPLICATION FORM REQUIRES THE HEAD OF INSTITUTION/ORGANISATION'S SIGNATURE, THAT SECTION OF THE FORM MUST BE SIGNED BY THE DIRECTOR, RESEARCH OFFICE.
