RIMS related information

The HR list on RIMS is taken directly from the HR system T2. Please note that all amendments and/or updates to personnel information is managed by HR. Changes made to T2 are updated on RIMS daily.

Non-Employee Research project

The Non-Employee Research Project is a joint initiative between the HR Service Centre and the University’s Research Office. The Project is aimed at capturing and maintaining all non-employee researchers in the HR Information System known as Talent 2.

Talent 2 will be a central repository for all people related information (excluding students) and will be used as a ‘single source of truth’; this data links directly to RIMS which is designed to be the central database for the University’s academic output.

Therefore, the personnel list must include any person who names or claims an affiliation with the University within a publication (eg. byline) or other academic output. Individuals who do not already have a formal affiliation with the University, such as a conferred academic title, need to be affiliated as non-employee Research Affiliates.

Formally affiliating non-employees contributing to the University’s research output may maximise the allocation of government block grant funding for research and the position in world-wide rankings.

Non-Employee Research Affiliates

The University has introduced a new, formal affiliation policy to cover “Research Affiliates”.

A Research Affiliate is an individual, who is not a paid staff member of the University nor a Conferred Academic Title Holder, but who is:

  • appointed or engaged by the University to perform duties or functions, and / or
  • recognised for their contribution to the University (eg. author using a USyd byline on a publication).

The affiliation process has been formalised to ensure the contribution of an affiliate to the University is acknowledged and they are aware of their role, rights and responsibilities. Any person who names or claims an affiliation with the University within a publication or other academic output who does not already have a formal affiliation, such as a conferred academic title, needs to be formally affiliated with the University.

Forms for the Recognition of a Research Affiliation (to be used to create a new affiliate record) and the Renewal of a Research Affiliation (to update or renew an affiliate record) are now available on the Human Resources Forms website under the Affiliates section.

For more information on affiliating a researcher see the frequently asked questions on the Research Office website, under the Publications section
