Up to 10 new fellowships are awarded annually. These are awarded to early career researchers.
There are three Research Fellowships categories:
- Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship (APD)
- Australian Research Fellowship and Queen Elizabeth II
- Fellowship (ARF/QEII)
- Australian Professorial Fellowship (APF)
- ARC Discovery - Projects
Postdoctoral cadetship for researchers of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent to develop research expertise and experience to a level which is competitive with mainstream funding.
Australian Postdoctoral Fellowships Industry and Linkage Industry Fellowships are available.
For postdoctoral researchers from participating countries to carry out research in Australia for one year.
Funding for outstanding researchers to remain or move to Australia to carry out research of national benefit.

Fellowships from the UK to Australia, Postdoctoral Fellowships to Korea, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Postdoctoral Fellowships.
For German researchers to work in Australia or Australian researchers to work in Germany.
Sir Zelman Cowen Universities Fund Fellowships in Support of Academic Exchange between the University of Sydney & Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The University of Sydney and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have established an agreement to encourage mutual visits by academic staff.
Applications for support are invited from all disciplines and will be ranked on academic merit. Preference will be given to projects in the area of Semitic Studies. It is expected that the visits will have a specific academic purpose and that their duration will not exceed 2 semesters. Shorter visits are encouraged. When an application is approved, the level of support will normally include a return economy airfare and some contribution to living expenses.
These fellowships are offered twice annually. Closing date for applications is 31 March and 31 October each year.
