Background
The University is making a significant investment in research management infrastructure through the Research Management Program, with the expectation of both immediate improvements and long-term benefits. The decision to effect change has been driven by recognition of the importance of research. The University must excel in the core area of research and innovation to achieve its ambition of 1:5:40.
The Research Management Program (originally known as the RIMS project) is a University-wide initiative that commenced in 2006, jointly sponsored by ICT and the Research Portfolio. In 2007, the program team oversaw a Request for Tender (RFT) process that resulted in the selection of InfoEd International Inc as the software provider for the University’s new Research Information Management System (RIMS). In September 2008, the Program team delivered the first RIMS module, Proposal Tracking (PT) including new and streamlined processes, which are now employed by over 250 staff across the research community.
The new system is configured for the University environment by the program team and a range of research management modules are rolled out together with accompanying process, culture and organisational changes.
