User Acceptance Testing completed

The Proposal Tracking module of RIMS was put through its paces during User Acceptance Testing from 22 July to 8 August by a team of 33 testers, representing a cross-section of future RIMS users. Many thanks to all those who gave their time to participate in this important process, diligently working their way through the test scripts to make sure the system will perform as expected once it is implemented. The testing process confirmed there are no critical defects that would prevent the Proposal Tracking module going live on 1 September as planned.

Training commences 18 August

An intensive training program has commenced for staff in the Research Office and Corporate Finance (Research) to ensure they are skilled up and ready to use RIMS when the first module goes live on 1 September. As well as ensuring familiarity with the system, the training also focuses on process and role changes that accompany the transition to RIMS. The training program will continue post go-live, with staff from the RMP team moving to the Research Office to provide ongoing guidance, support and further training as necessary. Training for staff outside the Research Office who will be provided with read-only access to RIMS will commence shortly after go-live.

Go-live – 1 September 2008

The Proposal Tracking module of RIMS will go-live on 1 September – at that date the system will hold information relating to all active grants plus outcome pending applications for small schemes and ARC Linkage Projects. Staff in the Research Office will have full edit access to RIMS and will use the system to support the management of the grants lifecycle. Read-only access will be rolled out progressively to staff in other central units and across the faculties who are involved in research administration and management to deliver the benefits of the new system to as broad an audience as possible.

This is an important achievement that is the culmination of a huge and concentrated effort from across the entire University – our thanks in advance to the many individuals whose commitment, contribution and support have been crucial to a successful implementation.
