Australian Federation of University Women (AFUW)
The Australian Federation of University Women (AFUW) offer a range of scholarships for study overseas.
Some of the main awards are listed below:
AFUW-NSW: The Tempe Mann Scholarship
The Trustees of the Australian Federation of University Women - NSW Inc. Education Trust invite applications from women who hold a research masters or doctoral degree from or who are enrolled as a research masters or doctoral degree student at The University of Sydney for the AFUW-NSW TEMPE MANN TRAVELLING SCHOLARSHIP 2008. The Scholarship is awarded to a woman to undertake a short period of advanced research or course work in any field, at an overseas university or equivalent organisation.
The Scholarship value for 2008 will be $7,500. A second scholarship may be awarded. The scholarship is to be taken up in 2008, or early 2009, for a period to be agreed by the Trustees.
An applicant must:
- Hold a research masters or doctoral degree from or be enrolled as a research masters or doctoral degree student at the University of Sydney
- Be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency in Australia
- Be accepted by the overseas university (or equivalent organisation) at which she proposes to study
- Establish the necessity for overseas study/research

AFUW - Queensland Fellowships
Open to women graduates of any recognised university or tertiary institute for study in Australia or overseas. The Freda Bage Fellowship is valued at $21,500 (2006 rate) for up to three years. The Queensland Commemorative Fellowships are also valued at $21,500 and are tenable for a maximum of one year. They are not restricted to formal university study. Endeavour Australia Cheun Kong Awards
Open to scholars from Australia to undertake research in China and the Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Japan, republic of Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The scholarship is valued up to $25,000 and is for 4 to 6 months. Note: APA holders are required to suspend the APA if they are awarded an Endeavour Research Award. However, the APA duration will not be reduced by any period of study undertaken towards the degree if the study of undertaken as part of an Australian Government financially supported international postgraduate research scholarship or award.
Churchill Fellowships
Open to Australian residents, over 18 years of age to pursue research projects that require resources not fully available in Australia. Subject of research is unrestricted. Valued at approximately $25,000 to cover return airfare, a maintenance allowance and fees where applicable. Tenable for approximately 12 weeks for practical investigation outside Australia. The John Crampton Travelling Scholarships
Applications are invited from students of Architecture, Engineering, Fine Arts or Classical Antiquity to undertake higher degree study in Italy, Germany, Spain, Greece or any other country considered appropriate. Candidates should preferably be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents and be graduates of an Australian university holding either a First Class Honours degree (or equivalent qualification) or a research masters degree. Other candidates who are students in any of the specified areas of study may be considered on merit. Normal tenure is up to two years for a Masters degree and three years for a PhD. The scholarships comprise a living allowance, payment of most compulsory university fees and a travel allowance to assist the applicant in travelling to the study destination. Applicants may be required to attend an interview at their own expense at Adelaide University after the closing date for applications.

The Sir Dunlop Asia Fellowships
The Dunlop Asia Fellowships provide opportunities for young Australians who are committed to making a lasting contribution to Australia-Asia relations. Fellowships provide a grant of up to $15,000 for an individually devised program in an Asian country in fields including, but not limited to, social service; local community development; regional organisation building; peace-keeping; public health / welfare; appropriate technology; environment / resource management; arts / culture; sport. Gowrie Postgraduate Research Scholarships
Gowrie Scholarships are awarded to descendants of members of the armed forces who saw active service for the Commonwealth of Australia during World War II. The value of the scholarship is $4,000 per annum and is tenable for two years in an Australian or overseas institution. Applications are available from Research Training, Research Office from August each year.

Lionel Murphy Postgraduate Scholarship
Applicants must be Australian citizens, and must have completed or be about to complete an undergraduate degree in science, law or legal studies, or other appropriate discipline from an Australian tertiary institution. The scholarship is tenable at an Australian or overseas tertiary institution for one year and is valued at up to $30,000. Preference will be given to applicants who propose to study:
(a) the law and the legal system in a social context, and their practical application;
(b) science and/or the law as a means of attaining social justice and human rights and as vehicles for change;
(c) international law as a developing force for peace and as a means of achieving the rule of law in all nations;
(d) Science as a tool for social benefit, particularly in meeting the needs of those most disadvantaged within society.
Other disciplines, where the prosed nature and area of study are likely to promote the goals of social justice and benefit for the disadvantaged.
