Sculpture, Performance & Installation
“The sculpture studio - a focus for diverse practices.”
Practice and Aims of the Studio
Sculpture includes performance, installation and the assembling of objects and structures that articulate space and a relationship to the body.
Sculpture addresses the language of three-dimensional space through the manipulation of materials and objects and thus addresses a relationship between the body, the object and space.
Contemporary sculpture may include temporal as well as spatial approaches involving installation, performance, film, video and audio works. It incorporates concepts and processes central to its history such as casting, carving, welding and the assembling of objects and the building of structures that articulate space. New technologiessuch as the visualisation techniques of 3D computer modelling and digital imaging are also addressed.
Studio Facilities
Study in Sculpture is supported by clay and plaster working area, stone and wood carving workshops, a metal forge, a specialised computer laboratory, the Wood and Metal Workshop for the production of large sculptural work.
