SCASS – Sydney College of the Arts Student Society

SCASS is SCA’s student society. We’re run entirely by SCA students, and organise all those non-studying elements of student life at SCA, from student galleries to Art School Balls! We also represent students to the university, so you always have a say.

SCASS is a “Faculty Club” of the University of Sydney Union. For just $99 per year, you can join the Union and get SCASS membership for free! Buy a Union ACCESS card online at http://www.usydunion.com, or pick one up from the ACCESS centre, Manning House on main campus, 9-5 weekdays. It’s the best way to make the most of your time at art school.

Some things organised by SCASS, and some things you get from membership:

Student galleries SCASS members exhibit free, and often get free refreshments on opening nights.

- The Abattoir A new exhibition space in the canteen common room

Parties The annual Art School Ball, and at least one other party during the year! Members get in free, and/or get a free drink.

SCAR The weekly SCA student paper. Send submissions, exhibition listings and goss to . Members get free picture ads (for exhibitions, etc)!

Art Prizes The annual 3 Weeds Art Prize in the 3 Weeds Pub, Rozelle, and the annual SCASS art prize. Members enter free and get perks on the opening nights.

Monthly BBQs Free for SCASS members!

FA (That’s Fine Arts!) Cup The annual, bitterly fought soccer comp between SCA, COFA and NAS!

SRC Caseworker (Definitely not just for SCASS members) SCASS hosts a caseworker from the Students Representative Council on main campus, Breda. She can help you with academic, welfare, renting, discrimination and other problems. She’s in the SCASS office Fridays and part time on Wednesdays. Email for an appointment, or just come in.

And lots more! The Union ACCESS card gives you discounts on main campus and off-campus, and much more. SCA students get thousands of dollars each year from the Union’s Cash for Art program, Photography, Art and Literature Awards, and Short Film Competition. They also join the Union’s 200+ clubs and societies, and go to concerts, parties and festivals on main campus. All discounted for ACCESS card holders!

We can’t even list all the benefits of Union and SCASS membership. 2 showbags of goodies each year?

And don’t forget you can also help run SCASS – because that’s all SCASS is, a bunch of students like you! Anyway, you won’t learn to be a practicing artist or arts administrator just by handing in your essays on time... Come to our weekly meetings: Fridays, 1pm on the Cafe lawn, or in the SCASS lounge if it’s raining. Free pizza provided! Even put up your hand for an executive position whenever one’s free, or at our Annual General Meeting.
