Step 1 - Application

A local applicant is a citizen of Australia or New Zealand or a permanent resident of Australia. Students currently completing the New South Wales Higher School Certificate and all other local applicants must apply to the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC). Please refer to the current UAC guide for application details.

International students currently completing the New South Wales Higher School Certificate must also apply through UAC. All other international applicants must submit an application to the International Office of the University of Sydney. Please refer to International Applicants.

Step 2 - Questionnaire

All local applicants for the Bachelor of Visual Arts are required to complete and submit a local BVA questionnaire to SCA by the last working day in September. Applicants who do not submit a questionnaire may not be considered for admission.

Step 3 - Portfolio Presentation and Interview

All local applicants will be invited to attend a brief interview where they will present a portfolio of their art work. All applicants will be advised in late October/early November of the date and time of their interview and should note that owing to the large numbers of applicants it may not be possible to change these appointments. The interviews are normally held in late November or early December. The interview panel will assess applicants' aptitude based on the following criteria:

  • commitment and vocational interest
  • cultural awareness
  • intellectual and critical skills
  • communication skills
  • portfolio presentation
