Bachelor of Visual Arts

The Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA) is designed to provide students with the conceptual and technical skills required to develop an art, media or design practice in the field of contemporary visual art. The BVA is a studio-based program. Students elect a major studio area to provide a focus for their art practice.

In the first year students are introduced to the conceptual skills needed to make ideas into art. This foundation year also includes a drawing program, studio and art theory lectures and seminars, and an introduction to research methods and studio facilities. In the second and third year, students expand their understanding of visual arts through studio-based practice and studio and art theory subjects, and can undertake electives in other studio areas. Students develop their work primarily in their major studio area and studio space is provided in the second and third years of study.

The BVA is offered full-time over three years. A fourth year (Honours), is available and extends visual arts practice through the development of individual studio work and a research paper. Enrolments are accepted in Semester 1.
