Statement

Sydney College of the Arts seeks to enhance the University of Sydney as a research institution in the field of the visual arts through research and other creative activities appropriate to the field.

In pursuing its goal of Excellence in Research, Sydney College of the Arts seeks to achieve the following research objectives.

Research excellence

To encourage research and creative work of international standing in both existing and emerging areas.

Research recognition

To address the definition and recognition of research in the visual arts and influence University and external bodies (through University committees, CHASS, ARC, ACUADS, DEEWR and international bodies).

Focused research support

To encourage research and creative work of international standing in both existing and emerging areas.

Researchers of distinction

To enhance selected areas of excellence in research in creative practice, scholarly work, design, applied technology and information technology and new media artforms.

Research excellence

To encourage research and creative work of international standing in both existing and emerging areas.

To attract, encourage and support staff with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in research and creative work.

To encourage the dissemination of the outcome of research and creative activity through publication and exhibition.

To create opportunities for all staff to maximise their research output, including opportunities for intellectual renewal through the provision of special studies programs and special duties overseas.

To promote interdisciplinary and team-based research.

To foster and reward skills and achievement in postgraduate supervision among university staff.

Researchers for tomorrow

To attract students with research potential, enhance research training, and acknowledge outstanding research / creative students.

To provide more support for research training and recognition for outstanding research students and assist the transition of students into research-based programs through opportunities provided within undergraduate programs.

Research environment

To support the conduct of outstanding research by both students and staff by fostering an academic and physical environment which incorporates access to information technology and necessary Library resources.

To foster an academic environment that encourages research appropriate to academic work in the field.
