The following list of current scholarships are open to undergraduate students and are listed according to their closing dates.

Beryl Henderson Memorial Grant

 

Note: This scholarship is not a University of Sydney scholarship. The contact details and links will take you to an external site.

The Beryl Henderson Foundation and the Australian Federation of University Women will in 2009-10 offer a grant of up to $1500 to assist in completion of a research project being undertaken by a female student or researcher in an Australian university.

Applications are invited from women who are enrolled either in Honours IV, or programs at an Australian tertiary institution leading to the award of a degree, or embarked on research work with publication in Australia in view. The purpose of the grant is to assist with practical aspects of research, such as intra- or interstate travel to consult library sources, or to consult with research collaborators. All or part of the grant could also be used for obtaining information (e.g. archival material) from overseas which is not available via the internet. It is not envisaged that the grant would be available for equipment such as computer hardware.

Wentworth Medal 2009

 

Established in 1854 by a gift of £200 from W.C. Wentworth, the interest to be applied in the shape of a medal as a reward for the best essay in English prose. The medal is now supplemented by a prize of $10,000. The competition for the medal is open to all students currently enrolled at the University of Sydney, except for previous winners of the Wentworth Medal. The award of the medal shall be made annually by the Academic Board provided that there is an entry of sufficient merit.

The topic or topics for the essay will be set, and the examiners of the essay will be appointed by a committee consisting of the Chair of the Academic Board, the Deans of the Faculties of Arts, Economics and Law and the Registrar, with the power to co-opt. The committee reserves the right to share the prize if there are two or more entries adjudged to be of equal highest and sufficient merit.

The topic for this year’s Wentworth Medal is: “The future of books”

To Enter

The authorship of entries submitted for the various prize compositions, including the Wentworth Medal, must be anonymous. For this purpose, the following instructions must be complied with by the authors of the entries submitted.

  • The composition must not be in the handwriting of the author
  • The name of the author must not appear on the composition
  • The composition must be identified by the nom-de-plume* (please make sure this appears on each copy of the essay)
  • Please attach the Wentworth medal Cover sheet (click here) to one copy of the essay submitted.

Entries which do not comply with the above requirements will not be accepted

Julian Small Foundation Annual Research Grant

 

Note: This scholarship is not a University of Sydney scholarship.

The Foundation's key objective is to promote and foster study, research and development of the law relating to employment and industrial relations in Australia.

The Foundation has decided to award one or more grants of up to $10,000. No grant will be less than $4,000.

Applications are sought from postgraduate and undergraduate students who are undertaking research and involved in the study of employment related law, or the study of industrial relations.
