Specific background scholarships
The Scholarships & Prizes Office has a number of scholarships for current students meeting specific criteria or with unusual skills.

Council of Education Scholarship
For: Children of teachers or officers of 3+ years standing with the NSW Department of Education & Training or the NSW TAFE Commission.
How much: $500
How long: 3 years

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of proficiency in the HSC.
Only one scholarship is available for award in each scholarship round. Applications are assessed on the basis of ATAR.
Freemason's Scholarship
For: Children or grandchildren of Freemasons of 5 years standing at the United Grand Lodge of NSW.
How much: $1000
How long: 3 years
Application due: CLOSED.

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of ATAR or last year's AAM depending on which year the applicant is in. Preference is given to students in their first year of study.
Konstantin Gawrilow Scholarship
For: Available to women of no more than 25 years of age entering a first year course who are enrolled to study Russian language or literature (or both) at an Australian university (as these subjects are not currently offered at USyd); and either:
(a) are of Aboriginal background and (i) have no living parents, or (ii) have only one living parent, or (iii) are cared for, or were until attaining majority cared for, by one parent by reason of the desertion of the other parent; or (b) are not of Aboriginal background and (i) have no living parents, or (ii) have only one living parent.
How much: $7500
How long: 1 year, with possibility of renewal if the student maintains satisfactory academic progress
Application due: Eligible students can apply at any time

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of HSC or equivalent entry examination results.
Spero Gravas Scholarship
For: Students whose parents or grandparents are or were at any time in their lives persons of Greek nationality.
How much: $400
How long: 1 year
Application due: CLOSED.

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of the previous years AAM. Only students in second year or above are eligible to apply.
Martin McIlrath Scholarship
For: Ex-servicemen & male descendants of ex-servicemen or women who are current or ex-members of the armed forces in the Faculties of Agriculture and Veterinary Science.
How much: $1,000
How long: 1 year

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of ATAR.
The Organ Scholarship
For: Currently enrolled students
How much: $1,000
How long:1-2 years
Application due: CLOSED
How to apply: Application forms will be available from the Scholarships & Prizes Office in March 2009.
The successful Organ Scholar will be required to assist the University of Sydney organist.
Universities Credit Union Scholarship
For: Undergraduate students (2nd year and above) who are members, or who have a family member who is a member of the UniCom Credit Union of more than one year's standing.
How much: $1,200
How long: 1 year
Application due: CLOSED.

This scholarship is awarded to the student who receives the highest AAM (Annual Average Mark) in the previous year’s examinations. Therefore, only students in second year or above are eligible to apply.
One award is available in each round.
