University of Sydney Prizes

There are more than 900 prizes and minor scholarships awarded annually at the University of Sydney.

The majority of these awards are made for outstanding performance in undergraduate study with nominations being collated when final results become available at the end of each academic year.

There are also a considerable number of prizes awarded for postgraduate work.

Prizes may take the form of cash payment, medals, book prizes, membership of organisations and other items. Many prizes and minor scholarships have long histories dating from bequests left to the University at the beginning of the last century, bringing a sense of tradition to the awards.

Many minor scholarships administered by the Scholarships & Prizes Office are awarded for proficiency in the year immediately preceding that in which the award is made (i.e. 2007 awards are made on the basis of academic achievement in 2006). Some awards may carry other conditions, such as that the recipient remain enrolled in a specified higher course of study to be eligible to receive the award. Full details of any conditions are specified when the award is made.

The Prizes Officer will contact all prize recipients in February each year with full details of the Prize awarded - including any conditions attached to the Prize and information regarding payment. Prizes awarded to students will appear on academic transcripts.

Please note that you cannot apply for the majority of Prizes on offer. If you are nominated to receive a prize, the Prizes Officer will contact you directly with full details.
