Equity Scholarships for HSC/IB students
Please note that there have been changes to the Commonwealth Scholarships program following the 2009 federal budget. We will be adding new information as we receive it from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. As such, information on this page is subject to change.
The following equity scholarships are now open:
- University of Sydney Access Scholarships
- V.John Plummer Scholarships in Economics and Business
- Commonwealth Scholarships
- Commonwealth Indigenous Scholarships
V.John Plummer Scholarships in Economics and Business
For: Students who will commence their studies in the faculty of Economics and Business in 2010. Students must demonstrate academic ability as well as meeting the conditions for the award of an equity scholarship.
Value: The scholarships are valued at $5000 p.a in 2010
Duration: The scholarships are awarded for the normal full time duration of the recipient’s degree.
Application due: 16 October 2009

Commonwealth Scholarships
Update: In 2009 the Australian Government proposed two new Commonwealth Scholarships designed to assist Undergraduate University students with education costs. If these new scholarships are approved and legislated, they will be offered to eligible students from 2010 onwards.
The Student Start-up Scholarship
For: All university students receiving Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY and those assisted under veterans' schemes.
How much: $2,254 in 2010 and indexed. The Student Start Up Scholarship will be paid in two instalments, at the beginning of each semester, in each year of a student's course of study at University.
How to apply: No application is necessary. This will be paid directly to eligible students through Centrelink.

If approved, all eligible students recieving income support will be paid, without application through Centrelink.
Commonwealth Relocation Scholarships
For: Students receiving Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY who are dependents who have to live away from the family home for study and independent students who are disadvantaged by personal and relationship circumstances.
How much: $4,000 for students in their first year at university and $1,000 each year thereafter.
How to apply: No application is necessary . This will be paid directly to eligible students through Centrelink.

Commonwealth Indigenous Scholarships
For: Commencing Indigenous students who need help with educational costs.
How much: These payments are indexed and will change on an annual basis. In 2010 the payment will be worth $4,253.
Duration: One semester (half paid on receipt of acceptance form, half paid in April.) Application due: 16 October 2009
How to apply: Complete the online application through UAC Equity.
