Taking a gap year?
Students who are considering taking a gap year will need to apply for scholarships during their final year of high school.
You cannot apply for many scholarships during your gap year so you could miss out if you wait. If you are successful in receiving a scholarship you can choose to defer it for up to one year so as to allow you to take your gap year.

We recommend that you:
- Check your faculty website to see if there are any faculty specific scholarships for gap-year students.
- See if you are eligible for a University of Sydney Access Scholarship. This scholarship is for students who have achieved excellent results at high school and who have overcome a demonstrated disadvantage, whether it be financial hardship or a documented disability.
- Apply for, or discuss changing to, a Centrelink student payment (Austudy, Abstudy or Youth Allowance), as this will you may be able to receive one of the new Commonwealth Scholarships.
When you commence at University you will be eligible to apply for scholarships and prizes for current undergraduates. This includes University-based scholarships and scholarships that we advertise on behalf of external organisations.
