Professor Belinda Bennett

Professor Belinda Bennett has been elected as a Fellow of Senate by and from the academic staff of the University, the two year term of office commencing on 1 June 2009 and concluding on 31 May 2011.

Professor Bennet is a member of the Investment and Commercialisation Committee.

Professor Bennett, who joined the University in 1990 as a Lecturer, is Professor of Health and Medical Law in the Faculty of Law.

She has a Bachelor of Economics/Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) (BEc/LLB (Hons)) from Macquarie University and a Master of Laws (LLM) and a Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Belinda is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

She is admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW.

Belinda is a member of the University’s Academic Board and Chair of the Academic Board’s Academic Staffing Committee. She is the Director of the Law Faculty’s Centre for Health Governance, Law and Ethics. Her previous Faculty positions include: Pro-Dean (Teaching Programs), Associate Dean (International), Associate Dean (Postgraduate Coursework), and as the Faculty’s first Director of Teaching Development.

Belinda has been a recipient of a Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence. She was a founding Board Member of the Australian Institute for Health Law and Ethics (AIHLE) (now the Australian and New Zealand Institute for Health Law and Ethics (ANZIHLE)). Belinda is a member of the NSW Medical Board and of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Ethics Expert Advisory Group.
