Geoffrey Dale
Registrar and Secretary to Senate: 1947 - 1950
Death of Mr. Geoffrey Dale
From the Report of the Senate of the University of Sydney for the year ended 31st December 1951, pp 926-7, 1953 Calendar:
It was reported to the Senate at an adjourned meeting on 21st May 1951 that the death had occurred on 17th May of Mr. Geoffrey Dale, a former Registrar.
At its regular meeting in June, the Senate unanimously carried the following resolution:-
The Senate desires to place on record its sense of the loss sustained by the death, on 17th May, 1951, of Mr. Geoffrey Dale, B.Ec, ex-Registrar of the University. Mr Dale joined the University Staff in 1921 as Assistant Clerk of Examinations.
During the long period of loyal service in the Administrative Department, he was Clerk of Examinations, Assistant Registrar, and Registrar, from which position he retired in 1950 because of ill-health. Throughout his service as an administrator, Mr. Dale, by his foresight, ability and energy, laboured impersonally to serve the best interests of the Institution he loved so well.
As an undergraduate in the Department of Economics, Mr. Dale had a distinguished record. He was the outstanding student in his Third Year gaining High Distinction, and being the recipient of every prize awarded in that year. He was one of the earliest graduates in Economics and was admitted to his degree in the uniform of a Bombardier of the Australian Field Artillery, 1st A.I.F. On the fields of Flanders during the years 1917 and 1918 he saw active service as a Sergeant of the 14th Battery.
Mr. Dale's service with the University extended from 1921 to 1950. Thus for more than a quarter of a century he rendered valuable service to the University in an unobtrusive manner, his work being characterised by thoroughness, painstaking efficiency, and without any regard for his personal well-being.
The Senate desires to pay tribute to the memory of a loyal and able servant.
